New Adult Book Prize

The New Adult Book Prize, first awarded in 2025, is the first award of its kind to recognise and affirm new adult fiction as an established space for books. The award was launched by The Bookseller, in partnership with Cheltenham Literature Festival. It is an opportunity for readers and authors alike to celebrate fiction spotlighting issues facing people aged between 19-29 years old. New adult books tackle themes that resonate with the transition from adolescence to early adulthood; whereas young adult is about coming-of-age, new adult fiction is about the transitional years afterward.

The New Adult Book Prize will champion all genres of fiction in the new adult fiction space. The winner is chosen by a roster of judges, who will be asked to award the book they believe is the best written and explores themes pertinent to new adults.

Max didn’t mean to fall for Vincent – a corporate lawyer and hobby baker whose trad friendship group are a world away from her life as a trans woman. But after years of bad dates and dysphoria he’s a breath of fresh air. Their connection seems genuine, his care feels real. But Vincent is carrying his own baggage. On his gap year in Thailand a decade prior, he vies for the attention of a gorgeous traveller, Alex, with secrets of her own. Is Vincent really the new face of the Enlightened Man, or will the ghosts of his past sabotage his and Max’s happiness?
